We raise pastured meat chickens using mobile “chicken tractors” that are moved frequently to provide fresh forage. This system promotes animal welfare, enhances soil fertility, and minimizes the environmental impact of confinement. We strive to offer our chickens exceptional nutrition—especially the importance of amino acids like methionine, often deficient in commercial poultry diets but naturally found in pasture-based systems through insects, grasses, and legumes. In addition, we feed the meat chickens locally produced USDA certified organic corn-free, soy-free feed.
Pasture-raised poultry offers superior nutritional benefits for consumers. These chickens contain higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids and more favorable omega-6 to omega-3 ratios, which are essential in reducing inflammation and lowering the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, and obesity.
One of the most meaningful ways we support our community is through our poultry donation program. For every $10 customer donation, we match it with the gift of one whole chicken to a local family in need. Through this partnership with our customers, we are currently able to provide wholesome, pasture-raised chicken to approximately 30 families in our area each year. As the cost of food continues to rise and food insecurity becomes more prevalent, especially in rural and underserved communities, we recognize the need to expand our efforts and hope to outreach more and more family each year.
We raise KuneKune and KuneKune-Idaho Pasture Pig mixes. Our pigs are fed 100% USDA Organic feed (corn and soy free) that is produced an hour north of the farm. Their diet is supplemented with organic throw-out veggies from our dear friends at Harlequin Produce as well as lots of time grazing during the spring and summer! That’s right, our pigs get much of their diet from grazing on pasture grasses.
We raise Icelandic sheep, a heritage breed, known for their mild, delicate flavor and tenderness. Our lambs rotationally graze on everything that grows in our pastures, which are never sprayed! We employ regenerative farming methods to improve the health of our soil and plants while offering the animals fresh green pasture all season.
We understand that paying for a half or an entire pig/lamb is a big investment toward eating delicious, healthy, local meat! We recognize the financial burden of paying a premium price for your food. We offer a payment plan option for those who would like to pay off their order throughout the year (remember “layaway”?). We collect a deposit on your order up front. You can decide whether making monthly or quarterly payments throughout the year is a good fit for you/your family. We want to be flexible and let people pay an amount that works for their budget. For example, if you paid thirty dollars monthly, this would get you a long way toward paying for a hog in nine months. When your meat is processed and ready for pickup, we will determine the balance due based on payments made.
We realize that is may not be feasible storage-wise to order an entire whole or half pig/lamb. In the future we plan to obtain the licensing to offer sales by the cut and store meat at the farm so that customers can enjoy purchasing their favorite cuts or preferred quantity with no worries about figuring out the freezer space on the customer side.
